Wells cargo trailers
George Carr, 63, was taken by La Pine Fire medics to their nearby station, where an AirLink helicopter landed and took Carr to St. Charles Medical Center-Bend, where a nursing supervisor said he was in serious condition late Thursday night. He had improved to fair condition Friday afternoon, officials said.
The initial investigation determined driver Chad Wilson, 35, of Eugene, was driving his 1995 Ford F-250 truck, towing an enclosed snowmobile trailer, northbound on Highway 97 'at an appropriate speed,' but was unable to avoid hitting Carr as he stood in the northbound lane Husband said in a news release.
Several witnesses to the collision gave statements, but Husband said it's still not known why Carr was standing on the highway. 'Alcohol does appear to be a factor, as it pertains to Carr,' the sergeant added.
A Ray's Food Place worker, Howie Carter, told NewsChannel 21 he was in his truck on a break when he heard the loud squeal of brakes at the time of the crash and saw the man on the ground afterward.
Wilson and passenger Jemy Williams, 26, also of Eugene, were unhurt in the crash. ODOT also assisted at the scene, Husband said
