Driver charged in Attleboro crash
The Massachusetts State Police are blaming an East Providence man for the tractor-trailer crash on Route 95 in Attleboro last Thursday that spilled aviation fuel, shut down the southbound lanes there for more than 10 hours and prompted the evacuation of 14 homes.
Andrew Tavares, 21, has been issued a summons to appear in District Court, Attleboro, on charges including three driving offenses, two registration violations and a drug paraphernalia offense, the state police said.
The police say Tavares was driving too fast early last Thursday morning when he tried to pass a car, struck a Jersey barrier on the median side of the highway, then swerved right across all of the traffic lanes and collided with a tractor-trailer carrying 11,000 gallons of aviation fuel
